Two courtyard houses in Polzeath - North Cornwall - Planning approval gained
Planning permission was granted for our design for two new builds replacing an existing dwelling on the site overlooking Polzeath Beach. Due to the prominent nature of the site and the client's aims on maximising the potential of the site, the design was sensitively considered to minimise it's visual impact looking from across the beach, and avoid privacy and daylight issues with the nearby neighbouring properties, while still achieving views out from the property.
The design works into the landscape using natural slate and a traditional Cornish barn form. The sleeping accommodation is submerged into the ground with the roofs becoming amenity garden space and using voids to bring light into sunken courtyards and the bedrooms. The day accommodation is contained within the "barn" forms emerging from the landscape, raising the rooms up to gain views out over Polzeath.
